Don't forget your Dramamine, kids

Funny-Real Estate-Photo-HowManyKidsDoTheyHave?!

Yes, you might think it would be difficult to get your kids to fall asleep if they had a bedroom as awesome as this one. Boing boing boing from bed to bed, right? But no. Because they know that if they’re bad little boys and girls, they get taken to sleep in this room:

Not a peep, I tell you, not a single peep comes from the kids’ room. Nighty-night!

At least the main bedroom seems to include a psychiatrist stle couch for all the therapy those parents are going to need because:
    1. They sleep in a bedroom where the walls turn you crosseyed and make you think that the wardrobe is actually sneaking forward (just look- I swear it is);
    2. Your children ran away to become pirates at the age of 8; and
    3. It finally hits home that dollars don’t always equal sense.

  2. Marianne says:

Can I sleep in a flying boat ma? but wait, with 6 kids and no door in the room, will I get any sleep at all really?

    • jackie31337 says:

I’m also wondering why, in a house with 10 bedrooms, six children would all be sharing one room. Just how many people live there, anyway?

  3. jenjen says:

OK, that place has TEN bedrooms and they have to squeeze four beds into one room? How many kids do these people have anyway?

  4. Dagny says:

What scares me is that they want $14 million for that monstrosity.

  5. This looks like a case of interior decorating run amok. Yikes!

  6. shan h says:

Some watched ‘Beyond the Valley of the Dolls’ way too many times.

  7. Dawn says:

They really love wallpaper. In fact, I think it’s their religion.

  8. Margaret says:

Is it just me, or does that first bedroom have three entrances with no doors?

    • Becky says:

Oh yeah, that’s definitely a bedroom with no doors on it. How restful for the little hooligans. (10 bedrooms & we had to squeeze 6 beds into one room?)

    • mystic_eye_cda says:

Maybe those aren’t “beds” maybe that’s the dinningroom and its the nouveau take on roman dining couches ;-)

There is also a sofa in the garage lest you grow tired waiting for your car to be taken down from the various lifts to allow for vehicle stacking, even though the garage is bigger than my whole house its clearly not big enough

Its strange that with 10 bedrooms and 14 baths they only chose 7 photos, none of the kitchen, and none of any of the bathrooms?

Damn I wish I could have:
      *Chef’s Kitchen
      *Music Room
      *Craft Room
      *In Ground Trampoline
      *Caterer’s Building

Not to mention a car workshop and a garage which hold a combined 12 cars and 60 motorcycles!

Can you please e-mail them for more pictures, please. If we all do it they’ll get annoyed

  9. Elinora Mantovani says:

Well, it is often said that nothing succeeds like excess, but on seeing these photos, one may wish to reconsider that saying. I think I feel a migrane coming on.

  10. enchiladaplate says:

Wow. It’s quite hideous, but when you read about the history, it’s kind of intriguing. Apparently Cary Grant, Marilyn Monroe, and other powerful people visited the house back in the day.

My favorite “feature” is in the description for the bunk room, though: “…but they are never too far out of sight as the critical children areas can be viewed from the kitchen or on the CCTV.”

  11. Alan says:

10 bedrooms, yet they pack 4 kids into 1 room. Did this family have 36 kids? And, if so, where are they now and how come none of them want to keep this house?

There’s got to be an interesting story behind this one. (And I’ll bet $14 million it involves ghosts.)

  12. Charlie Cornelius says:

Wot! No gift-wrapping room? Tsk and pshaw.

  13. Rillion says:

A house that expensive, and the kids still have to sleep six to a room?

  14. Tenshi says:

Anyone else find the fact that hair scrunchies are eating the chandaliers disturbing? This “noted archetect” needs a “qualified interior designer” to fix this mess.

  15. According to the listing, this house has been updated “to its full potential” … as a sailing academy.

The wallpaper in the Bad Bedroom actually made me nauseous for a second.

  16. Lisa W says:

This is where Wynken, Blynken and Nod go to die.

  17. Meredith says:

That isn’t a kids’ bedroom; it’s a flood-preparedness room. That family has seen their share of Titanic documentaries.

  18. MarcyLoo says:

“Grand 3.5 Acre Family Compound”? Sounds like a hide-out for some weird cult! Maybe that’s why all the boats…uh, beds in 1 room. “OK kids, get in your boats and we will all sail away to never-never land! Now, stare at the boats on the walls for 1 hour and before you know it you will be sailing…sailing…saaaaillllinnngggg…..”
But other than the frightning bedroom with the strange shrinking wardrobe it’s a gorgeous house!

  19. Jane says:

I wonder whose house this was. And do those cars hanging from the ceiling come with it?

  20. marlo says:

The wallpaper in the second room is doing a number on my sense of perspective. It almost looks like they photoshopped the wallpaper onto the walls. I can’t figure out why the print looks so huge on the right side. Where exactly is that wall in relation to the camera?

  21. Susan says:

I would guess (hope?) that the boat bedroom is some kind of sleepover room, since it has at least six beds, and is completely open to the stairs/hallway.

The decor in the other pictures is fairly sane, if a bit bland, but the bedrooms are Crazy Loud Eyeball-Destroying Wallpaper. I would never be able to get to sleep in these rooms, particularly the bottom picture, which makes the enormous cavernous bedroom look even bigger.

  22. Darla says:

These people put a whole new spin on the children’s story book,
    “Winkin, Blinkin, and Nod”.

  23. noonebutme says:

how many zeroes are in that price?? are they serious? $14 million?? those boats better really float for that.

  24. PK says:

I know that this is a blog about complaining and criticizing how ugly things are, but personally I found this pretty awesome.

Come on, boats as beds?! That’s like every sailors’ kids’ dream.

    • Sara says:

No, no! It isn’t about complaining and criticizing, I promise (although that’s always fun). It’s about finding the absurdities in real estate listings. If you search for “awesome,” a word I just can’t stop using, you’ll find some. Like this. Or this. Or this. Or…

      • PK says:

Ahh… sorry about the misunderstanding. I spoke up because it just sucks to see negative comments tend to pile up and attract even more negative comments, when some of the spaces are actually pretty awesome.

Keep up the good blog! Thanks!

  25. chris says:

horrible yes, as far as all the people wondering about the multiple kids beds in one room- this is a vacation home (albeit a questionably designed and decorated one) so when one takes ones kids to the vacation home, there are naturally many family and friends who come for visits- so it is actually really fun for the kids to have all their friends/cousins sleep in the same room…er same boats….we used to go to a beach house where there were like 8 single beds in one room- the kids used to call it “the dormitory” they really loved it and have many happy memories of the time they spent there. I do agree with all the questions about the taste level exhibited here- and garage, and waaaayyy oave lanscaped yard for lake Arrowhead(been there- kinda like “the OC” of vacation lake areas. I suspect the owner is a businessman with a slight insecurity problem.

  26. Badgrl74 says:

    Move that bus!

  27. makeinu says:

    I feel a little… deranged…. just witnessing that

  28. Rook says:

I’m *convinced* that all the furniture in the second image has been Photoshopped in.

  29. Wow, great pictures of the bedroom.

I really liked how they are decorated for kids.

I am definitely redesigning my children’s bedroom according to the rooms here.

Looking forward to see more of your postings.
