I bought a house with popcorn ceilings, so what do I know

I would say something about this listing Stephen found, but all I can think about is cream of tomato soup.

    Ceiling slatwall?

  2. Land of shimp says:

Jeez, and the English are known for their restraint??

Why am I imagining the owner of this flat standing in the middle of that living room in a top-hat, breeches and bellowing, "The Greatest Show on Earth!" randomly?

  3. Fauxology says:

As much as I like cream of tomato soup, there is a strong resemblance here… :) [P.S. I bought a house that has ceilings with different textures. Now, how did that happen? I feel your pain.]

  4. Jean says:

Is it me, or has the coffee table been propped up at an angle and had a paper cutout of a teapot placed upon it?

And the sofa is the grilled cheese sammich …

    Jean,
I believe it looks like that because of the camera angle and/or lens used to shoot this photo.

(and sorry, if others already answered this and are currently in comment moderation)

You can tell it's in England just by reading the description. There are few American Realtors who have such a grasp of the language.

I think I might actually like that ceiling IF the walls and floors were neutral and the window treatments minimal. The problem is that every single layer of decoration is beyond overdone.

That house is absolutely so not English. Goodness only knows where they got their taste from but most of us here in the UK like something a little more, well, refined shall we say. That living room is awful and the rest of the place isn't any better. xx

    There definitely into ceiling treatment!

To me it looks like staring at the hull of an old Chris Craft boat hull, back in the days of the "flappers." This is not an unpleasant prospect, whatsoever. As a ceiling treatment, though, I don't know. Swag lamps and billowing, long draperies, on the other hand, remind me of my first home purchase. A little goes a long way. Not like velour. You can NEVER have too much velour! ; )

Oh my! It is Lovely, and I WILL take it! The floral print couch from the 1970's is so delightfully out of place and in the very worst taste!
I followed the link, and the kitchen was done in the most expensive counter tops and appliances which are delightfully offset by the recycled office ceiling lights. These kitchen ceiling lights must have been rescued before the place was collapsed by the demolition team. Very chic and "green".
The gilt table with a matching mirror located between the kitchen and living room is a must see. What a marvelous little horror of a wall table/mirror combination!
    It's a beauty!

Wow, the house wouldn't look so bad if they didn't over do the decorations. The curtains, the lamps and such just put it over the top. If you were to tone down the Tomato Soup(LOL) room it wouldn't be too bad. A really great find, very interesting listing.

I actually kind of like this one, although the wide-angle lens makes the room look about four feet high. But if it gets too claustrophobic, remember it's only "moments from the open spaces of Brockwell park"–just watch out for re-enactors of "Revenge of the Killer Tomatoes"!

I can’t get over the lamps.
